No news from Lenovo and Skype

Until now nothing changed. No solution by Lenovo or Skype.

I would advise all Lenovo users to directly contact Lenovo and complain and ask for exchange with a working device or refund.

Official Interview with Lenovo Germany

First Please explain the video chat feature of the Lenovo IdeaPad A1_07 A1 version.

The operating instructions for the ThinkPad A1 can be found here

Second For what use is video chat feature of the Lenovo IdeaPad A1 in conjunction with the front camera?

For video chat with appropiate applications.

Third There are enormous difficulties since November 2011, to use the front camera of a ThinkPad tablet with Skype and Google Talk, the camera is zoomed off / on the head. What are the exact reasons for this?

This is a software issue.

4th Craig Swenson, Consumer Advocate has admitted that there will be no solution to this problem. How do you see that?

We are constantly in contact with our partners and try to satisfy the needs of our customers always.

Quote:

"Marius,
Here is the latest development from our team: We are working on a fix for ICS camera for the shipping with ICS A1 (A1-107). This image will not be available for previously released tablets A1 (A1-07) Which shipped with Gingerbread.

I am not sorry this might resolve your issues with Skype working on your A1 tablets, especially if you have the older models Tablet A1 (A1-07). Unfortunately Lenovo Can not Ensure that all non-IBM devices, software programs and work on Lenovo products.

I have updated this complaint on BBB. "

5th How many tablets IdeaPad A1 A1_07 version have been sold worldwide?

We dont publish the number of sales of our products - we only publish economic data of our regions.

6th Why Lenovo developed a version ( A1_107) with 1 GB of RAM instead 512 MB, 16 GB SSD instead of 8 GB and Android 4.0 (ICS) and why only this front camera fix is been offered for this modell? When it is available in Germany? For the same price as the A1_07?

We monitor the market closely. As soon as we can see a customer demand for a configuration like the above, we will also bring to the market in Germany.

7th Will there be an update to the Android ICS A1_07 Lenovo? If not, why?

Also, we consider this option. But can give you no further information at this time.

8th When will there be a problem solution for the front-camera problem?

We are always in contact with our partners andYou can be assured that we will do everything to lead to a solution.

9th What should customers do with your old equipment?

As our customer satisfaction is very important, we will find a case-by-case approach

Lenovo refuses GPLv2 licensed source-code release of Firmware of Lenovo IdeaPad A1! GPLv2 violation

Lenovo refuses to release the sourcecode!

GPLv2 Section 2:

"GPLv2 says that modified versions, if released, must be “licensed … to all third parties.” Who are these third parties? Section 2 says that modified versions you distribute must be licensed to all third parties under the GPL. “All third parties” means absolutely everyone—but this does not require you to *do* anything physically for them. It only means they have a license from you, under the GPL, for your version."

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.html

Consequences for Lenovo:
4. You may not copy, modify, sublicense, or distribute the Program except as expressly provided under this License. Any attempt otherwise to copy, modify, sublicense or distribute the Program is void, and will automatically terminate your rights under this License. However, parties who have received copies, or rights, from you under this License will not have their licenses terminated so long as such parties remain in full compliance.

Quote from Lenovo:

"As I told you on the phone lately - we won't pick up your A1 since our technology department told me that it's a software issue.
We won't be able to give you the source code - sorry for the late reply on this topic."
